RACER PROFILE: Drag Racer Lisa Sherry

Lisa has crewed for her father, Bob Sherry, since she was 16 but has been at the track watching her dad race since the age of 5. In 1993 she raced her daily drive, a white VN 308 Commodore, and then in 1995 Lisa had a run down the track in a hot 308 HX Street car which ran 11.7. In 1997 the hot pink VN, which her dad was previously running in Super Stock, was sitting around without an engine so Bob had a look around the shed and thought he had enough bits and pieces to put something together for Super Street. It made its first pass in 1998 and has had many successes including making the final at the 1999 Spring Nats at AIR (which her dad won in Super Stock)  and wining the first ever meeting held at the then new Mildura track in 2000. Lisa has always maintained an all girl crew with member’s including her sister, mum and step daughter as well as any “girley” friends who wanted to join in the fun. She drove this car while pregnant with both of her sons until she couldn’t zip up her race suit anymore due to the ever growing belly! When the track in Adelaide closed Lisa took a break from racing for 5 years to focus on motherhood and work. It was then decided the boys were old enough to tag along to the track so Lisa started racing at the regional tracks in Whyalla, Mildura and Coonawarra and had an absolute ball. Racing recommenced in Adelaide recently so the all girl crew were able to race in their local town once again and they hope to add some interstate trips in the future as well.  

The girls always try to do as much hands on work as they can and look after the cars needs on race day but of course the big engine build work and set up is looked after by Bob. Her dad is also her idol and mentor, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for drag racing. Lisa is passionate about encouraging girls of all ages to enjoy motor sport and to feel free to embrace their feminine side as well as their need for speed. Lisa may be obsessed with all things pink and sparkly but she is anything but soft when it comes to tearing up the track!
