Girls Encouraged to “Have a Go”
A very special and yet disturbing story reached our desk this week, about a young girl who was told by her teacher, that real girls can't be race car drivers. This comment caused us and every woman worldwide to take a step back in shock. Watching this story go viral, we ask "how can it be that there are still people in this modern world who remain so niaive to the abilities of those willing to 'have a go'".
The ladies at Girls Torque head office would like to share this special Aussie saying to everyone with a dream, regardless of race, gender, or physical ability, just go out there and ...
"Have a Go".
Since starting Girls Torque back in 2001, we have shown that with just a small amount of encouragement from their peers, girls will do whatever it takes to turn their dream into a reality. Once they're out there reaching their goals, our girls are eager to share their passion, through promoting the sport in schools, sharing their knowledge as a mentor, or just being accessible to their fans.
As the name suggests, Girls Torque is a collective of girls who love horsepower, whether building it, racing it, or talking about it. But even in 2016, there is still the misconception that real girls don't race, real girls don't get their hands dirty, and real girls aren't competitive. Girls Torque and our members are here to say that real girls can do all of this, and so much more. Our real girls are teachers, beauticians, mums, kids, mechanics, doctors, artists, grand-mothers and even a couple of world record holders.
So next time you admire a beautiful car or bike at a car show, or cheer as the helmet comes off the race winner, don't be shocked that there's a girl behind all that hard work. Try to notice how big the smile is on her face, because she worked hard to get there, and is loving every minute of it.
And don't be scared to go and show her your admiration, regardless if she is racing a jet drag racing car, or in junior speedway, because at the end of the day she is just a teacher, beautician, mum, kid, mechanic, doctor, artist, grand-mother who loves horsepower and doesn't see anything unusual in what she does for fun.
What ever you dream about doing, regardless of what makes you smile in anticipation, Girls Torque says "Have a Go". You might not be a world record holder, but you will be an inspiration to the next girl wondering if she can do it too.
